Harry Skelton hunting unrivalled Cheltenham high as former champion jockey looks to add to tally of wins

Harry Skelton hopes Grey Dawning and the rest of his team can provide another unbeatable Cheltenham Festival high.

The former champion jockey and brother Dan head to the Cotswolds looking to add to their tally of wins at the big one.

Skelton has a book of dangerous contenders as, having felt the savage nature of a frustrating meeting in the past, none of the yard’s horses are assigned without having a realistic chance. Grey Dawning is the bookmakers’ pick of the squad with Thursday’s Turners Novices Chase the likely target ahead of Wednesday’s Brown Advisory.

Skelton’s charge bustled up Turners favourite Ginny’s Destiny earlier in the season and he said: “We’re looking forward to him.

“He holds one of the strongest chances we’ve got and will be our shortest priced runner. Back in December, he made a bad mistake two fences out and still just went down by half a length to Ginny’s Destiny giving weight. We have a few chances going there and that’s nice. I’d like some more, but it’s hard to get them.

“I think the ones holding their ticket to be there deserve to take their chance. It’s all right going there making up the numbers, but it can get depressing very quickly. So you want to go there with everything having a realistic each-way chance.”

Skelton’s runners have to be closely monitored with Protektorat going for the Ryanair and Royal Infantry set for a crack at the Champion Bumper.

The team are also adept at planning handicap raids with Langer Dan returning to defend his title in the Coral Cup.

Unexpected Party, Frere D'Armes and Calico could line-up in the Grand Annual, while L’Eau Du Sud is a live contender for the County Hurdle with Nurse Susan and Le Milos looking exciting for the Martin Pipe and Pertemps Final
