Harry McKirdy issues Hibs health update as he opens up on heart scare and admits he 'feels like a normal human again'

Hibernian's Harry McKirdy has given an update on his health after a pre-season scan led to the forward undergoing heart surgery.

The 26-year-old reported for pre-season as normal with the Easter Road side but medical tests and procedures soon flagged up a heart issue which was followed by visits to specialists and further tests. McKirdy, who signed for Hibs on deadline day just over a year ago for then-manager Lee Johnson, was soon facing a lengthy hospital stay down south as he required immediate surgery.

The former Aston Villa youth player has been speaking of the surreal time he had when he first found out about his situation and the gratefulness he feels to his family and friends for helping him through the ordeal. While it's unlikely he'll be back playing for the Easter Road side anytime soon in the Scottish Premiership the the winger is starting to get his energy back and "feel like a normal human again".

Speaking to the club's website, he said: “It didn’t feel real to be honest [finding out the news]. I’d been training fine, I felt good in pre-season, and came back sharp and fit. It’s something I didn’t expect to find. Luckily for me they did find it and it’s all sorted now. It was probably a scary time for my family and people around me because they have to be with you, see you go through it, see you have surgery, and spend a lot of time in hospital.

"I found out on the Saturday, which was the first pre-season game, because of when the scan results came back, and then went down to London to get it treated. I had five or five and a half weeks in London in hospital. I had great support in the hospital and from my family and friends. They were really looking after me and I’m thankful for that.”
