Nick Montgomery set for Hibs manager unveiling and David Gray to remain key Easter Road figure

Nick Montgomery is set to be unveiled as Hibs new boss next week.

A compensation agreement is now in place with Central Coast Mariners and Montgomery has sorted his contractual agreements with both clubs. Those negotiations and discussions have only been finalised in the last 24 hours. Mariners will receive around £50,000 in compensation and Montgomery has now been given permission to travel to Scotland.

Record Sport first broke the news that the 41-year-old was one of the main contenders for the vacant Easter Road post. The A-League-winning boss will say his farewells to his Central Coast Mariners staff today and then will travel to Scotland. It will then see the former Scotland under-21 boss succeed Lee Johnson, who was sacked last month.

Montgomery will be assisted by his No. 2 Sergio Raimundo and current Hibs’ first-team coach David Gray. Hibs had a short list of five, including rival Premiership and foreign options, but decided Montgomery is the man to take them forward.

He will be unveiled in the coming days and then begin his new start in Leith. Montgomery’s first match will be away to Kilmarnock next weekend.
