Harry Maguire speaks out on Erik ten Hag as new Manchester United boss arrives

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has broken his silence on Erik ten Hag's appointment as the next permanent manager.

The 52-year-old is in attendance at Selhurst Park today (Sunday) as United take on Crystal Palace on the final day of the season. Ralf Rangnick's side need to win - or at least better West Ham's result - in order to secure their place in next season's Europa League.

Maguire's form has been heavily scrutinised this season after a number of mistakes against the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool prompting questions over his role as skipper in Ten Hag's debut campaign. Despite his club form suffering, the 29-year-old has been everpresent for Gareth Southgate's England side.

The Manchester Evening News understands that United are looking to make a central defensive addition in the summer as they look to eradicate the mistakes from this season that have led to a number of unwanted records. One of the names linked is Ajax defender Jurrien Timber whilst the Reds have revived their interest in Pau Torres.

"The lads have not seen or spoken to him yet," Maguire said speaking to BBC. "I am sure he has an eye on our game and fixture today. We are all looking forward to working with him."
