Harry Maguire faces potentially awkward reunion with Sergio Reguilon at Manchester United

Harry Maguire has had a previous run-in with new Manchester United signing Sergio Reguilon, which may have led to an awkward reunion this week.

United were forced into action on transfer deadline day as they scrambled to plug holes in Erik ten Hag's squad. By the time the window closed, United had welcomed four new players through the door.

Jonny Evans was already with the squad after signing a short-term deal to be involved in pre-season but the centre-back has now signed on for the year. Sofyan Amrabat was the big signing of the day as he moved to Old Trafford on an initial loan for £10m, with United having the option to buy him for a further £20m next summer.

Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir was yet another arrival as he completed his £5m transfer from Fenerbahce and Reguilon rounded off the quartet by joining on loan for the season from Tottenham.

United were in need of left-back reinforcements after Luke Shaw joined Tyrell Malacia on the injury list. The England international is expected to miss a couple of months of action with a muscle problem.

After changing their mind on Marc Cucurella after a poor display against Wimbledon for Chelsea, United instead moved for Reguilon. The Spaniard is out of favour at Spurs but United have admired him for some time and considered a move in 2021 before opting for Alex Telles instead.

Reguilon swapped Sevilla for Spurs and was a regular in his first season where he came up against United in April 2021 and that's when Maguire launched an X-rated jibe at his new teammate.
