Harry Kane 'set his heart' on Manchester United move and more transfer rumours

Harry Kane would have stayed at Tottenham for another season and joined Manchester United next summer, according to reports.

Kane was earmarked as United's prime transfer target by Erik ten Hag at the start of the summer, with the Dutchman keen to address a lack of attacking threat in his squad. Their 58 Premier League goals last season was the lowest in the top six, with 17 of them coming from Marcus Rashford.

However, United's initial approach for the striker was met with major resistance at Tottenham, with chairman Daniel Levy outright refusing to sell to a top-four rival. Ten Hag's side swiftly moved on to other targets, eventually agreeing a £72million deal with Atalanta for Rasmus Hojlund.

But according to the Daily Mail, they could have had Kane on a free transfer next summer, had they guaranteed him the move ahead of time. The report states that the England international 'set his heart' on a move to Old Trafford and would have played out the final 12 months of his deal in north London.

Kane eventually joined Bayern Munich after the German side agreed a deal worth up to £100m with Tottenham.

Elsewhere, ESPN reports that United saw a £50m bid for Evan Ferguson 'laughed off' among Brighton chiefs.

Shortly after the decision was made to move away from Kane, Ten Hag and United went about approaching alternative No.9 targets. They have been long-time admirers of Ferguson, who broke into the Brighton first-team last season and already looks like one of Europe's top young strikers.
