Benjamin Sesko makes Manchester United transfer admission amid Premier League dream

RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško admits he was not involved in transfer talks with Manchester United but insists a move to Germany was better for his development.

Slovenia striker Šeško joined RB Leipzig for around £20million in August, having burst onto the scene at their sister club, RB Salzburg. As a 19-year-old at the time, he netted 16 goals in 30 Austrian Bundesliga appearances and featured seven times in the Champions League.

United were in the market for a world-class striker this summer, with Erik ten Hag desperate to add goals to his side after seeing them score just 58 in the Premier League last season. Harry Kane was the Dutchman's prime target, but football director John Murtough had spoken with Šeško the previous summer and the youngster was again linked with a move to Old Trafford.

“The thing is, I wasn’t really involved in these kinds of conversations,” the Slovenian told Transfermarkt when quizzed on United’s interest. "But I think it was better to come here.

"It was very important for me to go to a place that plays a similar style of football. I already knew what I had to do and didn’t have to go through a whole learning process again.

"It would be nice to play there (the Premier League). But for now, let’s focus on the now and then we’ll see.”
