Harry Kane has chance to send Pep Guardiola strong message when Tottenham face Man City

Everyone is aware of the Harry Kane summer saga with Man City and Saturday is the first time he will be facing them since the transfer links.

This is because he wasn't in the matchday squad on the first day of the season, when Spurs beat Pep Guardiola's side 1-0.

The only goal in the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium came from Son Heung-min in the 55th minute and despite the Manchester side dominating statistically, it was a solid opening performance from the Lilywhites.

Since then, Spurs have faced a change in manager and inconsistent form which has recently seen Antonio Conte's side lose their last two home fixtures, against Southampton and Wolves.

This makes the trip to the Etihad even more difficult than usual, but the 52-year-old will hope his side can make the trip North and produce a positive reaction after their recent form.

After England's defeat to Italy in the Euros final last summer, Kane was heavily linked with a move to Manchester but it never became a reality and in late August, Guardiola spoke on the saga.

"The club [City] did absolutely everything [to sign Kane]," he admitted. "We didn't talk with Tottenham - not even one offer, because they didn't want to negotiate.

"Tottenham didn’t want to talk so we didn’t talk. The moment they open the door, maybe we will see. Maybe they say we want £200million, we will not pay £200 million for one reason: because we don’t have it.

"So we tried to open the door to negotiate but the big master of the big negotiation Daniel Levy knows everything, and he would not do it," the 51-year-old added.

Guardiola has never shied away from praising the Tottenham striker and did so ahead of the Champions League quarter final tie between the two sides in 2019.
