Hannibal Mejbri's turning point at Manchester United might have arrived

3,125 days after his last start for Manchester United, the 35-year-old Jonny Evans started for them again. In a must-win game, Evans was the man of the match.

Evans was so giddy amid the sound of United supporters rocking to his name in the away end at Turf Moor he described it as the best night of his life. Post-match media obligations meant Evans was one of the last to leave the pitch and you would not have begrudged him for milking the moment.

There was nothing ostentatious about Evans' celebrations. Too often in recent years, United have lacked proper grown-ups in the squad and Evans' teammates visibly buzzed off his authority.

United players have been strikingly quiet when it has mattered most this season and they were more communicative at Burnley. Evans did not hesitate in rollicking Scott McTominay in the first half and Bruno Fernandes' leadership was more constructive.
