Hamilton Accies star Reegan Mimnaugh on 'the monkey he wants to get off his back'

Reegan Mimnaugh chipped in with an assist for Hamilton in last week's draw with Ayr but he admits it's goals he's keen to add to his game after drawing a blank in over 70 appearances for the club.

The midfielder may only be 20 years old but he is one of the more experienced players among John Rankin's squad at New Douglas Park.

Despite that, he is yet to get off the mark for the club's first team, having come through the academy in his teens.

And he has revealed it is something he is working hard on with his gaffer and he hopes he can finally break his duck in Saturday's Championship clash at home to Raith Rovers.

He said: "I need to get that goal and get the monkey off my back.

"Hopefully I can get a wee goal on Saturday.

"The gaffer has been saying he wants me to get more involved higher up the pitch, rather than the bottom half of the pitch.

"He says he knows I can do the nice, tidy football but he wants me to affect things higher up, get more assists and get more goals.

"It was good to get the assist last weekend and my goal for the season is to do that more often and get on the scoresheet as well."

A first league win is also something Mimnaugh craves with Accies held to three draws in their opening games with Morton, Partick and Ayr.

Hamilton have been ahead in all of them and seeing games out needs to be the next step.

He added: "We have been playing well so [seeing games out] is just that final thing we need to get right. I don't think it's a massive problem right now.

"As soon as we get that first win I'm sure we'll be flying and the wins will keep coming."
