Stefan Gartenmann open to Aberdeen FC return in future as he maps out career next step

Stefan Gartenmann wants a new challenge but would never close the door on an Aberdeen return in the future

The centre half had a successful loan at Pittodrie but has returned to his parent club Midtjylland. Gartenmann hasn’t spoken to new Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin but doesn’t expect to be heading back to the Dons next season. He confirmed: “I haven’t spoken to the new Aberdeen manager. At this point, he will know what type of players he will want in his team.

“He has a very specific way he wants to play and I’m not sure I fit into that. If he was keen to have a player like me then I might have heard something. I just think for Aberdeen and myself it is best to go our separate ways now. Maybe, in the future we could talk again and it could be the right time and fit.”

Gartenmann is hoping that he does get a move and is keen on trying his luck in another European league. He said: “I am hoping for another adventure.

“My stay in Scotland made me realise how I like experiencing new cultures, playing and living. I really want to try something new in one of the European leagues. I want to make the right move. I am 27 and I need to take the move that elevates me to another level.”

He also believes he has returned from Aberdeen a better player. Gartenmann admitted: “It was a great experience. Everything I wanted out of it, I think I got.

"I played in some great stadiums, played some great teams and in some great games in Scotland and Europe. I wanted to experience Scottish and British football culture. “I played a lot of games and I got the full Scottish league experience from the good to the bad.”
