Hamilton Accies sign ex-Ayr Utd winger as they strengthen squad

Hamilton Accies have concluded a deal that will see winger Daire O'Connor join them from Glentoran on a two-year deal.

Accies negotiated the transfer for an undisclosed fee.

The 27-year-old is well-known to Scottish football fans, having spent two years at Ayr United from 2021-23.

O'Connor has received clearance from the Irish FA and will be in the squad for tonight's Premier Sports Cup clash against Premiership side Ross County.

Accies chief executive Gerry Strain said: "I've been chasing Daire since I came into my jo at Hamilton, so for two years now, and we've managed to agree a transfer fee with Glentoran to bring him in.

"Daire will give us an option that we don't have, and it's a crucial part of the plan for what John Rankin is trying to build. He's looking for pace and options up front, and Daire will give us a better complement."

That takes Championship newcomers Accies' summer signings up to seven, adding to Nikolay Todorov, Oli Shaw, Sean McGinty, Charlie Albinson, Steven Bradley and Barry Maguire.
