Hamilton Accies hero Lee Kilday 'got lucky' with winner over Partick Thistle

Lee Kilday admits he got a slice of luck with Hamilton’s winner against Partick Thistle.

The defender hopes to net more often, having equalled last season's tally as he knocked in Connor Smith’s free kick in 56 minutes to take all three points and move Hamilton up to fifth in the Championship.

Kilday said: “It was good to get the goal, but the most important thing was to get the three points.

“I thought in the second half we defended really well. Once we got the goal they put a lot of pressure onto us, but it’s good to get three points and a clean sheet.

“I thought Smudger [Smith] was going to hit a shot at the free kick, but he’s dinked it in, and I think it was me and Dan O’Reilly that has gone up, it has hit off my shoulder, hit him and gone in, so it’s good to get a wee bit of luck.

“I think I scored at the end of last season but that’s one goal, and hopefully there will be many more this season.”

Kilday added: “It’s a great win. The three points are the most important thing. You need to grind it out in this league, everybody knows how hard it is.

“Last week we did well to get a point at Raith, but to get the three points here is great for the boys.

“We’ve got a great team spirit in that dressing room, so to get the three points is going to lift us even more.”

Hamilton defended stoutly to hold on to the three points, with goalkeeper Dean Lyness making a last-gasp finger-tip save to deny Robbie Crawford an equaliser.

Kilday said: “Defensively in the last 10 minutes they’ve put in everything they’ve got, and we’ve cleared it all, defended really well, and Dean Lyness hasn’t had very many shots to save.
