Hamilton Accies extend young star's contract after loan success

Hamilton Accies have secured young midfielder Cian Newbury on an extended deal until 2026.

The 18-year-old spent the second half of last season at League Two side Dumbarton, who gained promotion to League One via a play-off win over The Spartans.

Newbury was awarded Young Play of the Year at Dumbarton.

Hamilton boss John Rankin told the club's website: "It's great to get Cian tied down. He's an exciting young player that did well when he came into the team here, but really shone at Dumbarton in the latter half of the season.

"It was great to see him being awarded their Young Player of the Year. It gave him that extra bit of recognition that means he will be back here in pre-season with that little bit more fire in him to push into the team."
