Hamilton Accies boss targets 'one or two' signings ahead of Stirling Albion clash

John Rankin is hoping to do some business in the coming days to bolster his Hamilton Accies squad, with ‘one or two’ fresh additions being targeted for a move to New Douglas Park.

Rankin has welcomed 12 new faces over the summer and more look set to follow, although ex-Celtic winger Owen Moffat won’t be one of them after he turned down a loan move from Blackpool.

The transfer window slams shut at midnight on Friday for permanent deals, but Accies will be looking to utilise the loan market, which will remain open for another month.

That doesn’t mean Rankin isn’t keen to add to his table-topping squad before the weekend, and he hopes to do just that with Saturday’s League One clash at Stirling Albion just around the corner.

He said: “Hopefully we can get maybe one or two in to help us, if we can.

“I want to bring in someone who can impact the starting 11. At this stage, I don’t think we want to be going and getting a squad player.

“We want someone who can instantly give the dressing room a buzz and keep everyone on their toes.

“That’s what we would be looking to do.

“If we can do one or two before Friday, we will.

“Things change quickly at this stage of the window because there can be a domino effect from the top. If players come in there, some players become available.

“We have got a target in mind if that happens, and hopefully we can secure one.

“We can still bring loan players in after the deadline, of course, but we would still look to do a bit of business before Friday.”

Asked if any of his squad would be heading out, he said: “If someone comes in and blocks somebody’s game time, that may lead to players wanting to move on and I wouldn’t stand in anybody’s way.
