Hamilton Accies ace ready to leave two-year injury nightmare in the past

Marley Redfern is desperate to put a two-year injury nightmare behind him and help Hamilton Accies win the League One title.

The 21-year-old midfielder has torn his hamstring four times in that period and damaged ankle ligaments, so is hoping to get a period where he’s injury-free on the park and can help the team.

Redfern made only his third appearance of the season, replacing Euan Henderson in 81 minutes of their 1-1 draw with Kelty Hearts, and he’s just glad to be involved.

He said: “It was really good to get on against Kelty Hearts.

“It has been a tough two years on and off, but hopefully I can now try to get as many minutes in now as possible.

“It is two years this month when I first did my hamstring, and I tore that four times.

“Then I came back in the Championship play-off game against Alloa in the second leg, and in a tackle I had torn my ankle ligament.

“It has been a nightmare, really frustrating, and even more so with the ankle, probably, because I was just coming back from the hamstring.

“It’s a tackle, so there’s not much you can do about it, but it tore, so hopefully it’s all done now and I can move on from it.

“I’ll be hoping for a run of games without injuries, but I’ll need to work really closely with it, because it has been so long – taking it easy, that kind of thing, not rushing back too much.

“But we’ve been building it up with minutes in the reserves as well, so hopefully I can get a wee chance and get as many minutes as possible until the end of this season.”

Redfern had hit a bit of form ahead of the 1-0 SPFL Trust Trophy final win against Raith Rovers last season, but lasted just 21 minutes before injury struck again.
