Hairdresser exposes clients' annoying seven-word jibe that makes stylists shudder

While some people love to change up their hairstyle with every appointment, others stick to the same cut and colour for decades. But one hairdresser has taken to social media to warn people against saying a seven-word phrase to their hairdresser - explaining how it could be taken the wrong way.

In a TikTok video, user @mobilehairdressingguru asked: "When your new client says, 'My old hairdresser used to do my hair like this'. How do you answer/respond? " While she says some stylists might be thinking, 'Well go back to them then', she urged hairdressers to give a productive response to the annoying comment.

She added: "[You could] say, 'Rather than showing me how your old hairdresser used to do your hair, can you show me some images of what you're hoping to achieve and I'll see if they' will work with your hair type/texture'. Rather than getting annoyed by the comment say, 'I appreciate you may be nervous about having your hair done by another hairdresser, but you are in safe hands'. Reassure them and help to calm their nerves."

She gently reminds hairdressers their clients may continue with this comment after the cut - saying something similar to, 'It doesn't look like the when my old hairdresser used to do it'. At this point, she says a stylist might be better off accepting that you're not a good match.

She advised: "Do your best to offer the best possible outcome, and politely explain that you may not be a good fit for each other." Curious about how her peers would tackle such scenarios, she encouraged other hairdressers to share their wisdom and stories in the comment section.
