Greg Taylor shuts down Celtic 'mentality' questions after Champions League defeat as he looks to swerve Euro hangover

It could be Rotterdam or anywhere, but defeats on the big stage leads to big questions.

It’s the way of the world at clubs like Celtic and this week has been no different. Brendan Rodgers' side had another Champions League falling down moment against Feyenoord when a promising performance for 45 minutes was followed by second half of red card induced slapstick. The knees jerk and everything gets analysed from the tactics and the team sheet to the bigger picture stuff like the summer transfer window and the club’s overall strategy.

Chucked into the mix is stuff like claims the players inexperience, suffer from naivety and issues with mentality. Greg Taylor accepts some of those barbs but he is not having the last one. The full back insists this Celtic side does have the mentality required to cut it among the big boys. And he’s convinced his team will learn from De Kuip and compete in the rest of their Champions League campaign.

Taylor said: “The one thing this clubs demands is winning. We go into each game trying to treat it the same.

“Of course, it’s an increase in level in the Champions League, where you do get punished for the smallest mistake. I don’t know so much about mentality, though, because you have boys in there who have won so many trophies.

“We have that winning mentality. The big moments in the game took things away from us more than mentality.

“Looking back on the game, I think we realised we competed well. We just fell short in the second half.

“A key moment in the game was losing a goal right before half-time. Even then, we had a chat and we wanted to go out in the second half and try and improve.
