Green light for Thurles, Clonmel card cancelled

Following an inspection, the track at Thurles was found to be fit for racing and the fixture scheduled for this afternoon goes ahead, but Thursday's card at Clonmel has been cancelled as a result of recent heavy rain at that venue.

Lorcan Wyer, IHRB clerk of the course at Thurles said: "Following 4mm of rain overnight, Thurles is now heavy but the track is fit for racing. It has stopped raining here now and the forecast is for it to remain dry for the rest of the day.

"The ground is going to be very testing, particularly on the chase track. We will be omitting the third last fence in both of the chase races this afternoon due to the ground conditions."

Following 23mm of rain in the last 24 hours, the track at Clonmel remains unfit for racing. On the decision to cancel, Wyer explained: "Since we were unable to race here last Thursday the track had a further 12mm of rain over the weekend and 23mm on top of that since yesterday morning.

"It remains unfit for racing at present and to allow all stakeholders to make alternative plans we have decided to make the decision this morning as there simply isn't enough time for the track to recover, particularly with the possibility of a further 5-10mm of rain tomorrow."
