Greatest assist ever? David Beckham's pass to Ronaldo for Real Madrid was just unreal

Piers Morgan opened up a can of worms with his tweet about David Beckham during Sunday’s Super Bowl.

Morgan tweeted: “Great to watch a Beckham who can actually play football…” in reference to Los Angeles Rams’ Odell Beckham Jr.

To say he sparked an almighty debate would be an understatement.

After Gary Lineker defending Beckham, Morgan replied: “You might want to suck up to him, for whatever reason, but Beckham was the most overrated player in history.  Wouldn’t have got onto the Arsenal Invincibles bench.”

He went on to say: “Take away the crossing & free-kicks, he was a fame-hungry snail with dumb haircuts who only won that much because of the truly great players around him.”

Whatever you say, Piers.

We don’t want to sink to Piers’ level and argue Beckham’s case. In fact, we don’t really need to. Everything Beckham achieved in his career already does that.

Instead, we want to just look at one assist in his career to highlight just how good Beckham really was.

You’ve probably seen it already because many football fans consider it the ‘greatest assist in football history.’

And who are we to argue?

It came during his Real Madrid days and it was a 50-yard pass that assisted Brazilian Ronaldo against Real Zaragoza.

He picked up the ball near the right touchline, looked up and produced a quite incredible curled pass that floated in between two defenders and onto the foot of Ronaldo.

What. A. Pass.

Okay, Ronaldo’s finish was world class but the goal was all about the ball.
