Barcelona & Real Madrid: The highest-scoring seasons in the 21st century

The attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar is arguably the greatest ever assembled in football history.

During their three seasons together at Barcelona, the South American superstars scored and assisted goals for fun.

No defence on the planet was safe when they came up against the famous ‘MSN’ trident and they’re also the main reason why the Blaugrana won the treble in 2014/15.

8. Barcelona (2015/16) – 173 goals

7. Real Madrid (2016/17) – 173 goals

6. Barcelona (2014/15) – 175 goals

5. Real Madrid (2011/12) – 175 goals

4. Manchester City (2018/19) – 176 goals

3. Ajax (2018/19) – 179 goals

2. Red Bull Salzburg (2013/14) – 181 goals

Do not adjust your screen, Pep Guardiola‘s Barcelona side really did score 190 goals across all competitions in 2011/12 and guess what? Messi was responsible for 73 of them – and he also assisted a further 32 of them, utter madness.

Real Madrid are the only other side along with the Blaugrana to feature on the list more than once, with Manchester City (another team coached by Guardiola) the sole
