Greater Manchester weather LIVE as eleven flood warnings issued across region

Eleven flood warnings have been issued across Greater Manchester as heavy rain batters the region.

Flood warnings - the second most severe issued by the Environment Agency and meaning flooding is expected - are currently covering parts of Chadderton, Cheetham Hill, Crumpsall, Blackley, Lostock, Middleton, north Manchester and Worsley.

Separate flood alerts, which mean flooding is possible, are in place for parts of Bury, Manchester city centre and Salford Quays.

The flooding is also causing travel disruption with train services between Southport and Wigan Wallgate cancelled.

A yellow rain warning issued by the Met Office came into force at 12.30am and will last until 8pm tonight. It covers all of Greater Manchester, as well as part of Merseyside, Lancashire, Cheshire and Wales.

"Mostly dry at first with bright spells," an update said. "Cloud thickening from the east during the morning bringing some light rain at times, especially to hills inland, where it remains rather windy. Maximum temperature 15 °C."

Video footage shared with the M.E.N this evening shows drivers wading through flood water at the car park at the Tesco store in Burnage.
