Greater Manchester trail named among best dog-friendly waterfall walks in the UK
Whether it’s a quick stroll around the block or a leisurely weekend wander, going for a walk with your four-legged friend is one of the joys of owning a dog. There are lots of places to take your pooch around Greater Manchester - but one has been named among the best dog-friendly waterfall walks in the UK
The Dovestone Reservoir and Chew Reservoir circular, which straddles Greater Manchester and the Peak District, ranked third in a list of the UK’s best dog walking routes with waterfalls along the way. The research was conducted by outdoor dog gear specialists, Ruffwear, who analysed 244 routes on the walking app AllTrails and ranked them according to top reviewed and highest rated to find the top 10.
A lengthy 13.5km route, it does take a while to complete and isn’t one of the fainthearted, but if you and your dog are serious hikers it’s definitely one to consider. You could also shorten the route by sticking to either Dovestone Reservoir or Chew Reservoir.

Even though this route was the only one in Greater Manchester to make the top 10, there are plenty of others nearby which could be tackled during a day out or on a weekend away. Coming in first place was the 8km Malham Landscape Trail, just over the border in Yorkshire. This stunning route takes in Janet’s Foss waterfall, Gordale Scar and the spectacular Malham Cove, a dramatic limestone pavement.
