Greater Manchester couple celebrate 50th wedding anniversary with 12 holidays in 2025

A couple from Leigh are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary by going on holiday for each month of 2025, jetting off to destinations in Spain, Turkey and Morocco and more.

Allan, 72, and Kathleen Guy, 68 have planned the holidays as “a celebration of our life together”. The golden anniversary celebrations are particularly poignant as the couple first met in 1970 in North Wales, where they were both on separate family holidays.

In 1973 they got engaged and were married two years later in 1975. They swapped North Wales for the more glamorous holiday location of Magaluf in Majorca for their honeymoon in 1975.

They’re even held on to their board cards from the trip 50 years ago, which was booked with Thomson Holidays with Britannia Airways flights. Allan and Kath plan to revisit their honeymoon hotel during their epic year of travel.

It will kick off in January with a two-week trip to Agadir, Morocco. In the next 11 months they will fit in holidays to Rhodes, Antalya, the Canary Islands and three cruises – a Danube TUI River Cruise, a Mediterranean voyage and a Canary Islands adventure with Marella Cruises.

“We started planning this trip in late 2023,” the couple explained. “Originally, we were looking at a luxury coach tour of Italy, but when that was cancelled, we decided to rethink our plans. That’s when the idea came to us—to spend every month of 2025 away on holiday. We wanted to visit places we’d never been to before and make this anniversary year truly unforgettable.”
