Great British Bake Off star says 'thank God it's over' as 'hardest' elimination so far shocks fans

Great British Bake Off fans are in 'shock' after the judges sent another contestant home in the 'hardest' elimination so far. This week the bakers tackled Botanical Week, taking on flavour, with spices.

Contestants worked hard to impress judges with their bun making skills, all hoping to win the title of Star Baker and survive another week in the tent. This week's episode (October 31) saw the pressure mount for Cristy Sharp, who was crowned Star Baker last week.

Things started to take a turn for the worst when the contestant's show stopper started to go wrong. After taking a moment outside of the tent, she came back to complete her creation.

While judge Paul Hollywood admitted it was 'a bit of a mess,' he said the taste was still there and commended her efforts for carrying on. Cristy, who admitted 'thank God it's over' when she had completed the challenges this week, is neverthekess 'emerging as the dark horse' for some fans.

On social media platform X (formerly Twitter) @Suzy_H14 commendted: "I thought Dan would win but I have to say Christy is definitely getting better each week & it could be her." Jimmy Jazz said: "Christy emerging as a dark horse."

And @laurenmiller30 added: "Well done Cristy!" While Eliza73 wrote: "Christy the dark horse! Well done." Judges said they were impressed with Tasha and Josh this week, with Josh chosen as Star Baker.

Bake Off presenter Alison Hammond said in announcing that Dana Conway would leave the competition: "It has been one of the hardest decisions of the competition so far."
