Aldi 'threatens' Great British Bake Off with legal action amid caterpillar cake challenge

Aldi has 'threatened' the much-loved Great British Bake Off with legal action after its caterpillar cake challenge. Last night viewers watched as the show's technical challenge saw the quarter finalists take on the task of making a caterpillar cake.

The retailer couldn't resist responding to the episode to protect its own Cuthbert the Caterpillar cake. A series of social posts were shared online and in another tongue in cheek move, it decided to write an open letter to Channel 4 bosses.

Accusing the retailer of 'taking the biscuit' with the caterpillar challenge, the letter - packed with puns - reads: "To Channel 4, we are intellectual caterpillar counsel to Aldi UK. We write to you regarding Channel 4’s violation of Cuthbert’s rights. Aldi has always been a big fan of the Great British Bake Off, and we’ve long craved a Hollywood handshake… But tonight’s episode really took the biscuit.

The letter goes on to say: "Aldi is prepared to protect its caterpillar and pursue this matter to the fullest extent of the law. We certainly think a legal challenge would be a piece of… well, we think it would be easy. Therefore, we demand that you cease and desist from all further use of, and agree to permanently refrain from, any unlawful reference to, or use of, Cuthbert, including, without limitation, use of the image
