'Going to jail me... might as well go to Blackpool for the weekend', killer text friends after horror street attack

A killer messaged a friend "might as well go to Blackpool for the weekend." after leaving a trainee lawyer dying in the street. Jake Parkinson suggested going to the resort as he did not want to spend Friday night in a police cell.

Parkinson and pal Jak Fairclough had attacked Jack Jermy-Doyle before running from the scene shouting "who wants it?". The pair had spent their evening looking for trouble in the bars and pubs of Preston. Their victim had been enjoying a quiet drink in Chorley with a friend on one of the hottest days of summer 2022.

Jack, a life long member of the Scouts Association and a popular 25-year-old lawyer, and his pal decided to carry on their evening in the city. Their decision had tragic consequences after running into Parkinson, 22, and Faircloiugh, 29, at 2.30am, LancsLive reports.

After a brief exchange of words Parkinson punched Jack in the stomach and Fairclough delivered a second blow, which knocked him over. Jack fell to the ground and struck his head on the pavement, putting him into a coma. He died two days later.

A jury at Preston Crown Court heard how as news reports of Jack's injuries emerged, "frantic messages" were sent between Parkinson and Fairclough. Fairclough had contacted Parkinson, informing him that he would be handing himself into police that morning - but Parkinson refused to turn himself in on a Friday, claiming that he didn't want to spend the weekend in a cell.

“Going to jail me,” was one of Parkinson's messages, to a friend, accompanied by a snoozing face emoji. He added: "See you at HMP Wymott”. He also wrote “shaving my hair off, they won’t know it’s me.”
