GoCardless Kent Junior 'B' Cup Final report: Roselands 1 Little Sharsted Medway 0

Tonbridge side Roselands withstood plenty of second-half pressure and a big penalty appeal late on to win Saturday’s Kent Junior B Cup final.

In a well-contested battle at Bearsted’s Honey Lane ground, Roselands’ “Magic Man” Jacob Chiarletti scored the only goal of the game, netting with a well-struck shot late in the first half against Little Sharsted Medway.

Roselands, from the Sevenoaks & District League Premier Division, held onto that one-goal advantage thanks to a determined rearguard display after the break against a Little Sharsted team who have won the Division 1 title in the Rochester & District League.

There was late controversy in the final moments when Jamie Watkins went over inside the box after an overly zealous shove in the back from defender Alex Faulkner. It looked like a penalty - and even the Roselands manager felt it should have been - but the match officials didn’t, and the Medway side were left frustrated in defeat.

For Roselands, it capped a brilliant campaign, landing a trophy in a season where they have challenged for league honours after being unexpectedly elevated to the Premier Division.

Following the win, manager James Burton said: “That was pretty special and was probably our biggest game in 62 years, so it means a lot.

“For a small club from Tonbridge, it's a pretty big moment.”

It was a nervy finish for Roselands as the Medway side threw bodies forward, but their assistant boss Ian Matthews said: “I was always confident, to be honest, but fair play to Little Sharsted Medway, they fought to the very end.
