GMP issues statement as street cordoned off after reports of shooting with bullet found

Police cordoned off a street in north Manchester yesterday as they responded to reports of a shooting.

Officers were first called to Monsall Road in Monsall, near the junction with Monsall Street, at around 4.10pm yesterday (Thursday) to 'reports of a suspected firearms discharge'. Police tape was put in place as forensic officers and Tactical Aid Unit officers carried out investigations within the cordon.

In a statement issued this morning (Friday), a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said no injuries were reported. The incident was believed to be 'isolated' with no threat to the wider community.

The Manchester Evening News understands that a live bullet was found on the scene, but that it had not been fired. Patrols were stepped up in the area yesterday, with the cordon remaining in place into the evening.

Forensics could be seen carrying out fingertip searches of the scene with evidence markers placed within the cordon.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At around 4:10pm yesterday evening (Thursday 1 June 2023) Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of a suspected firearms discharge on Monsall Road. Officers attended but thankfully no injuries were reported.

"This is being treated as an isolated incident and it is believed there is no threat to the wider community. Extra officers were deployed to the area to carry out enquiries and offer reassurance to local residents."
