Girl seriously hurt after being hit by vehicle on busy road

A young girl was seriously hurt after being hit by a vehicle on a busy road in Bolton.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the crash on Moss Bank Way just after 3.30pm yesterday (Friday). The girl - whose age has not been released - was walking when she was knocked down.

She was airlifted to hospital. Her injuries were serious, police said in a statement.

Another person was also given aid by a fire service trauma technician. Police said the driver remained on the scene to assist officers.

No arrests have been made at this stage. A cordon was put in place on the busy road after the incident yesterday, with the road taped off in both directions between Blackburn Road and Broad'o'th Lane.

Detectives are urging any witnesses of the crash to come forward. They particularly want to speak to anyone who has dashcam footage.

In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Shortly after 3:30pm yesterday (Friday 17 March), Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Moss Bank Way, Bolton, between a vehicle and a pedestrian. A young girl was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"The driver remained at the scene and he is continuing to assist police with enquiries. No arrests have been made at this time.

"Officers are now appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have footage of the incident - including CCTV or dashcam - to please get in touch. You can do so by calling GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 quoting incident 2019 of 17/03/2023.
