Girl, 16, among six arrested after hand grenade found in house

A bomb squad carried out a controlled explosion after a hand grenade was found in a Merseyside home.

Merseyside police carried out a warrant at a house on Netherby Street, Dingle, Liverpool, at 8.20pm on Monday, September 19. The search unveiled a suspected firearm, ammunition and a hand grenade.

Officers quickly evacuated nearby properties and set up a cordon in the area. Following this, the Explosive Ordinance Disposal team turned up at the scene to carry out a controlled explosion in the area, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Now, detectives have arrested six people in connection with the search - a 58-year-old man; a 27-year-old man; a 37-year-old man; a 61-year-old woman; a 16-year-old female and a 32-year-old woman. They were all arrested on suspicion of possession of an s1 firearm while currently being held in custody where they will be questioned.

Detective Chief Inspector Catherine Walsh said: "Enquiries are still in the very early stages and I would ask people not to speculate while our investigation remains ongoing. I would like to thank the public, especially those living in the immediate area who had to be temporarily evacuated, for their patience while this matter was dealt with in a safe and controlled manner."
