Man arrested after Ferrari 'reached speeds of more than 180mph' on duel carriageway

A man has been arrested by police after reports a Ferrari supercar reached speeds of more than 180mph on a busy duel carriageway bypass.

Police said the arrest was made in connection with the emergence of a video on social media. It's understood the speed reported is more than double the legal speed limit in place on the section of road referenced.

Derbyshire Police said the arrest was made 'in connection with a video which emerged on social media of a Ferrari reaching speeds of more than 180mph on the A61 northbound near Dronfield'.

The man held is from South Yorkshire and hasn't been named. No age for him, or further description of the car, has been revealed by the force. The suspect has been released 'under investigation' as police inquiries continue.

The A61 bypass links Chesterfield to Sheffield. It's not been revealed exactly which stretch of the road is involved.

In a statement, Derbyshire Police said: "A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

"It is in connection with a video which emerged on social media of a Ferrari reaching speeds of more than 180mph on the A61 northbound near Dronfield.

"The man, who is from South Yorkshire, has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

"We would like to speak to anyone who may have noticed a Ferrari in the area between around 3.15pm and 3.45pm on Sunday 2 October and may have dashcam footage which could help with our investigation.

"If you can help, please contact us on the details below, mentioning reference 22*577445, or if you have dashcam footage you can submit it here: https://snap.derbyshire.police.uk."
