Gillingham v Luton Town team news in the Carabao Cup first round: Bradley Dack ruled out and doubts remain over on-loan Southampton keeper Ollie Wright

There’s mixed news on the injury front for Gillingham ahead of this Saturday’s season-opener.

The Gills host Luton in the Carabao Cup first round at Priestfield.

They’ll be without experienced midfielder Bradley Dack but Cameron Antwi is available and manager Gareth Ainsworth is keeping his cards close to his chest over on-loan keeper Ollie Wright.

Injury has ruled 23-year-old Wright out of the pre-season matches but Ainsworth claimed he’s “touch and go” to feature against the Hatters.

“We're still touch and go with Ollie and we'll see where that is on Saturday,” said the Gills boss.

“It's the one position, obviously, that everyone will talk about because they know that I've gone this year with one number one and that's the way I've always done it.

“I don't like a number two, just sat there doing nothing. I think they should be having careers elsewhere and these youngsters can take the hit if they have to.

“Ollie's close, that's all I'll say. We'll see how that goes.”

Gillingham could use back-up Taite Holtam, who made two league appearances at the end of the 2024/25 season, or bring in a keeper on a seven-day emergency loan.

On Dack and Antwi, Ainsworth added: “Dack, unfortunately, got a calf injury during the pre-season and we've got to make sure that he's okay.

“Bradley's one of the older members of the squad and we know we can't have any recurrence of injury for him. Bradley won't be involved on Saturday.

“Cameron is back on the grass in full training, doing really well. He's not played since February but had a couple of operations, had a serious injury up at Barrow that needed surgery on an ankle.

“He also had a shoulder issue that we thought we'd get done as well. But really pleased with Cameron where he is. He's
