Genius cake-cutting hack produces 32 even slices every time – guests will never go hungry

If you're planning a grand celebration, fretting over whether your cake will feed all your guests can dampen the festive spirit.

But fear not, as a cake expert has shared the ultimate hack for cutting a cake into over 30 pieces - it turns out we've been slicing cakes incorrectly all along.

While it's tempting to simply quarter the cake and grab a sizable portion, this approach might leave some of your guests feeling short-changed. Cake aficionado @cupcakejemma showcased on Instagram the proper technique to divide a cake to ensure everyone gets a piece.

Jemma, who recently became a mother, mentioned that she's "at kids' parties at least once a week" and is invariably asked to slice the cake - prompting her to share her method.

She began by sectioning the cake into eight parts, then proceeded to cut it into a snowflake pattern. This involved making a cut from the centre of each eighth to halfway down the side, resulting in two small triangular pieces and one diamond-shaped slice. The diamond is then halved to create two additional triangular pieces.

Jemma explained: "It's a really simple way to make a small cake go really far." She managed to carve an impressive 32 portions from her seven-inch cake. She went on to say: "If the pieces are for kids you could even cut them in half again to make the cake go even further."
