Gary Neville's new global job at Man United explained days after Sir Alex Ferguson's exit

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has landed a new role at at the club just days after news broke of Sir Alex Ferguson's ambassadorial contract coming to an end. The 49-year-old was on freelance ambassador duties for the Reds in India, according to The Sun.

Neville was on a panel at the Minerva academy in Mohali, travelling to India for the Apollo Tyres flagship grassroots football programme, which is part of the 'United We Play' programme. The Tyre company says the programme is designed "to enable our next-generation players to reach their optimum performance by unlocking their potential".

The report claims Neville's trip was one of a number of responsibilities the former England international has with the club - with the ex-defender also a regular on broadcast duty in the UK and the United States. A photo of Neville at the event shows him speaking with the Manchester United badge in the background.

Around 250 people have been made redundant since Ineos took charge of a minority stake in the club, with Ferguson the latest big name departure.

The legendary boss had been on a deal worth millions of pounds per year, but Ratcliffe has imposed a number of cost cutting measures since taking over football affairs. Ferguson will see out the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign before his contract comes to an end.
