Gary Neville 'proud' of Hannibal Mejbri as former defender berates Manchester United players

Gary Neville has praised Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri's attitude and setting the standard for the rest of the squad at the end of their 4-0 drubbing to Liverpool.

The Tunisian came on for just his second appearance for the Reds and was instantly throwing himself into the thick of it with challenges on Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and Andy Robertson. He was cautioned for leaving the England international in a heap after replacing Anthony Elanga and was given a final warning from referee Martin Atkinson after he cynically bundled Naby Keita over - who was lucky to escape any retrospective action for an alleged stamp on Jesse Lingard.

United showed slight resilience in the second half as they came close through Marcus Rashford, although the flag went up, Alisson blocked both efforts well. But their fightback was spurned when Luis Diaz found Sadio Mane who placed his effort into the bottom corner to extinguish any belief of a United fight-back.

But for Hannibal he showed some grit and pride with his late cameo, earning praise from Neville in commentary. He said "To be fair at least the kid's showing something.

"Honestly, it takes a young kid to come on and show the rest of them how to sprint to the ball and put a challenge in. I'm actually proud of him.

"Maybe he doesn't like the idea of Liverpool passing around him, I wish the others were the same."
