Gary Lineker says what everyone is thinking about James Maddison as brilliant stat emerges
James Maddison scored another stunning goal as Leicester City saw off Brentford 2-1 in the Premier League.
After Timothy Castagne had opened the scoring with a wonderful swerving effort, Maddison curled home a sumptuous free-kick from 25 yards to double the lead. Yoane Wissa pulled a goal back late on, but City held on to secure a victory which left them 10th in the Premier League table.
Maddison’s goal was the latest in a growing list of cracking strikes from the talented midfielder, who has rediscovered the impressive form he showed during the first half of last season.
After the goal, Foxes icon and Match of the Day host Lineker tweeted “yes @Madders10” with a link to an eye-catching stat from the Stadium Astro account: “Since the start of the 2018-19 season - his first campaign with Leicester - James Maddison has scored more Premier League goals from outside the box than any other player (13), overtaking James Ward-Prowse (12) with today’s strike.”
Overtaking Ward-Prowse in the long-range goals stakes is an impressive feat given the Southampton man’s reputation for stunning goals, particularly from free-kicks.
