Gary Lineker, Roy Keane, Gary Neville - Eight pundits predict Man United's season

Manchester United are one of the more unpredictable teams heading into the 2024/25 season.

After enduring their worst-ever Premier League campaign last term, manager Erik ten Hag remains in the dugout, but much has changed around the club. There have also been four new signings and potentially more to follow over the final fortnight of the summer transfer window.

The promising performance in the Community Shield despite a penalty shootout defeat to Manchester City also means there is growing optimism around United. Plenty of pundits have been making their predictions for the season this week, and here is a selection of them:

"I was impressed with [United] in the Community Shield," Shearer said on the Rest is Football's Premier League predictions podcast. "I thought they should have won, they had the better chances.

"They'll definitely improve their position from last year. I mean, what were they? Eighth last year? So definite improvement.

"I've got them just missing out on Champions League football, but putting up a good fight for it."

"I think they'll just miss out on [the] Champions League," Lineker said on the Rest is Football's Premier League predictions podcast. "I just wonder about a club like Man United playing counter-attacking football.

"I think it's difficult to play that way consistently, particularly against the smaller clubs. You can't play counter-attack that way, so therefore, you can't play a consistent system all season, I think that's what's scuppered them. Unless [Ten Hag] has a change of system. I'm going to say European football, but not necessarily Champions League."
