Gary Lineker sends Nottingham Forest classy message after promotion to Premier League

Former Leicester City striker Gary Lineker has sent his congratulations to Nottingham Forest, after they defeated Huddersfield Town in the Championship play-off final to earn promotion to the Premier League.

The Reds won the game at Wembley 1-0 courtesy of a Levi Colwill own goal in the first half and were never challenged by the Terriers to return the club to the top flight after 23 years away.

Despite two controversial calls from VAR, Forest held onto their lead and sent the travelling Reds fans into ruptures at the national stadium. The Reds will now welcome the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City to the City Ground next season after a tremendous season in the second tier of English football.

Steve Cooper's side join Fulham and AFC Bournemouth in replacing Watford, Norwich City and Burnley in the Premier League, completing the amazing turnaround of fortunes since he arrived in September.

After the game, Lineker took to his Twitter to applaud Cooper and his side for achieving promotion and hinted at his excitement of his Leicester side facing the Reds.

"Congratulations to @NFFC on being promoted," the Match of the Day presenter said.

"Finally we will have a proper derby in the Premier League when they face @LCFC. Look forward to welcoming them on @BBCMOTD."
