Gartcairn boss will look at friendlies to cope with sparse December fixtures

Gartcairn boss Mick Dunlop will look to arrange “one or two friendlies” as he negotiates his way through a frustrating run of games in December.

The West of Scotland Premier League side were due to visit Pollok on Saturday before heavy frost and snow put paid to those plans, and they’re not in action now until they host fourth-placed Beith on Wednesday, December 13.

Gartcairn then host Cumnock on December 30 in their next game, and Dunlop is frustrated to have had a good run artificially halted.

Dunlop said: “We saw the forecast, so it was kind of expected, it’s just part and parcel of it at this stage of the year with the weather, it’s just difficult.

“We didn’t have a game this weekend, so going two weekends without a game isn’t ideal, but then we’re playing Beith on Wednesday, December 13, so it’s trying to arrange friendlies now, to keep it ticking over.

“There’s not really a lot you can do about it. It’s frustrating, because we were on a good run and you want to continue that, but these things are outwith your control.

“The lay-off doesn’t really let us get many people back. Kamil Krol and Ross, my brother, didn’t train last week.

“Maybe Ross will have a chance for the game on the Wednesday, I don’t know about Kamil, his is a strange one.

“He trained on the Monday and was fine, and then in the warm-up for the St Cadoc’s game he went out and did a couple of light jogs across the park, but said he felt like something had gone.

“I think he will be a bit longer.

“We’re playing the current champions, Beith are a really good team, and every game in this league is a difficult one, so it’s another one to look forward to.”
