Derek Adams' Scottish football blast dismantled by pointed Man United reminder from Hibs star Will Fish

Will Fish says Manchester United and technical director Darren Fletcher had no worries about Scottish football's quality when they decided to send him back on loan to Hibs. So the defender reckons Derek Adams’ claims the standard is “shocking” don’t stack up.

Fish is thriving in his second season on loan at Easter Road with boss Nick Montgomery tipping him for a “massive future”. Montgomery also went public with his desire to keep the 20-year-old permanently in Leith. But while Fish admits he was humbled by his boss’ comments he is focused solely on continuing to improve his game - and he reckons the level of opposition he faces every week is helping him do just that.

Adams’ Ross County are today’s opponents in Dingwall as Hibs look to bounce back from defeat at St Johnstone. And asked about the County manager’s comments, Fish said: “I can’t get on board with it. I think it’s a really good, challenging league, especially for a young centre half. You go from playing Celtic away one week to Ross County away the next. There is a big jump but, equally, the games can be just as hard because Ross County will have their strengths and Celtic play the way they do.

“Every week is a different challenge and it’s really exciting. Manchester United wanted me to come here because you’re dealing with a lot of physicality and you are playing in a lot of big games.

“Celtic and Rangers, then playing at Hampden this season too - all great experiences. There are not many players down south who will play for clubs with the backing Hibs have.

“I feel a real connection with the club, I’m learning all the time and I think we can be successful. Darren Fletcher texted me when the new manager came in because he knows him from their younger days.
