Gareth Bale leaving Madrid: Remembering his 2014 Copa del Rey final goal

Gareth Bale‘s heady era at Real Madrid will finally come to close at the end of this season.

Los Blancos manager, Carlo Ancelotti, confirmed the news this week as Real prepared for their blockbuster Champions league clash with PSG.

For Bale, it will be the end of what has been a tumultuous period in his career, especially in recent years, with Ancelotti acknowledging that the Welsh superstar hasn’t quite been at his best of late.

“I have a good relationship with him and the rest of the players,” Ancelotti began.

“Personal relationships are strong when everyone shows respect and he has always done that and has never let me down in that regard.

“In the past, he hasn’t had great motivation, but he wants to end things here in a good way.

“Bale has helped this club to win the Champions League, Copa del Rey and signing off on a high here would be good for his career.”

However, it hasn’t always been that way and there can be no denying that Bale enjoyed some truly beautiful moments at the club.

Signed for a staggering fee of £85 million, the speedster almost instantly paid it back by becoming one of Europe’s true footballing menaces.

He would go on to win  two La Liga titles, a Copa del Rey and four Champions League crowns in nine years at the Bernabeu, scoring some once-in-a-lifetime goals in the process.

His Champions League final bicycle kick will go down as one of the greatest goals ever scored in a final and could possibly only be rivalled by his effort from the 2014 Copa del Rey showpiece.

As two very different goals, it is nigh-on impossible to truly compare them but, what they do have in common is that they were simply jaw dropping at the time.
