Remembering when Jose Mourinho gave the worst post-match interview of all time

Legendary manager Jose Mourinho has been in the headlines for his managerial prowess numerous throughout his career, but his honest words have also seen him receive attention on several occasions.

Mourinho’s iconic quotes are almost as legendary as the man himself, he has a way with words that not many managers can stack up against.

But after a particularly rough game for the Portuguese saw his Chelsea side lose 3-1 at the hands of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, there was very little the manager wanted to discuss.

Despite Ramires getting Chelsea off to a bright start by scoring in the fourth minute, a second-half brace from Philippe Coutinho and a late strike from Christian Benteke saw Klopp’s side bury the Blues.

The defeat piled more pressure on Mourinho as his side had lost to West Ham the weekend before, and were booted out of the EFL Cup by Stoke City in the week leading up to the game.

The loss was Mourinho’s sixth of the season, the highest amount of defeats he had experienced during a Premier League campaign with Chelsea at the time.

But for Liverpool it was a momentous occasion, the game was Jurgen Klopp’s first-ever Premier League win as the Reds manager. The victory was perhaps a foreshadowing of what Klopp would go on to achieve at the club.

After the game, Klopp expressed his sympathy for the Blues manager: “I feel for him. He’s a great coach. I don’t think anyone in this room doubts he’s one of the best in the world.

“Things like this happen. I had a similar situation at Dortmund last year. The good thing was no one in the club was in doubt of my situation. I feel for him of course, but it’s work.”
