Gabriel Jesus admits Arsenal nerves made the difference in Premier League title race vs Man City

Gabriel Jesus pinpointed Arsenal's nerves as the deciding factor in last season's Premier League title race.

The Gunners were top of the table for much of the season and even had an eight-point advantage over Manchester City at one point.

Jesus made the move to Arsenal from City last summer, as did defender Oleksandr Zinchenko. The pair looked to have dragged Arsenal to their first top-flight crown since the 2003/04 season.

But it was not to be as the Gunners' form faltered and City went on a relentless winning run to overhaul Mikel Arteta's side.

And ex-City star Jesus believes Arsenal's nerves at the business end of the campaign decided the title race. He hopes the upcoming campaign will be a different story, with the experience of last season now under Arsenal's belt.

The former City star said: "Sometimes at the end of the season, we were a little bit nervous as a team. They were not nervous because normally they win, so that makes the difference.

"I think this year we are more experienced about this and it will be different. Even before I was feeling like this, the gap was not that big. Obviously they are together years and then this makes the difference and they are winning for years.

"But since day one I arrived here, I believe we can fight, we can win."

Pep Guardiola's men will be looking to become the first side ever to win four Premier League titles in a row next season, kicking off their campaign away at Burnley on August 11.

The Manchester Evening News are producing a special 48-page 2023/24 season preview to look at what the new campaign could hold for Manchester City.
