Erik ten Hag can repeat Andre Onana tactic to solve another Manchester United transfer problem

With a new goalkeeper and a new central midfielder through the door, Manchester United are not far from completing their summer recruitment drive.

The additions of Andre Onana and Mason Mount have significantly strengthened two key areas within Erik ten Hag's squad. Onana, drafted in after David de Gea's exit, will improve United's ability to play the ball out from the back and Mount will give them an injection of energy in midfield.

Both walk straight into Ten Hag's strongest XI and, on paper, all that is now missing from it is the elusive striker that United are so desperate to lay their hands on. The Reds, of course, have sounded out Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund as their top target, but are not prepared to invest north of £60million in his signature.

Reports have suggested that the Italian club will demand somewhere close to £90m for the 20-year-old, a figure which United are simply not willing to entertain. Even a fee of £60m feels somewhat risky for a player who is so young and inexperienced.

But regardless of whether United reach a breakthrough in negotiations with Atalanta for the Dane, or indeed turn their attentions to an alternative option, the No.9 berth must be filled before the window slams shut. If they fail to achieve that mission, a lot of questions will need answering.

However, presuming United do achieve their primary objective, Ten Hag's first-choice starting XI will be complete. Based on what they have already achieved this summer, a striker would be the final piece of the jigsaw.
