Full weather forecast for Greater Manchester as Storm Bert pulls away

More settled weather conditions are forecast for Greater Manchester this week in the aftermath of Storm Bert.

The storm brought torrential rain, strong winds and snowfall to large parts of the country over the weekend causing 'severe disruption' due to flooding. Hundreds of homes were left under water, roads were turned into rivers and winds of more than 80mph were recorded across parts of the UK.

The Environment Secretary Steve Reed said it is 'likely' there may be more flooding in some areas this week, particularly in Wales and Scotland, though the impacts 'should be less severe' than they were on Sunday and Monday morning. Residents in some affected areas have said they do not believe the chaos will by cleared by Christmas.

For our region, drier and more settled weather conditions are now expected in the aftermath of the storm. According to the Met Office, sunny and cloudy intervals are forecast for today in Greater Manchester with temperatures reaching highs of 8C during the afternoon.

It is set to remain largely dry throughout the week and into the weekend, with sunny intervals expected until Sunday amid some cloudy conditions. Temperatures will rise slightly in our region on Friday to highs of 10C, with it feeling even milder on Saturday as the mercury rises to a high of 14C.

On the overall weather outlook for the North West from Thursday to Saturday, the Met Office said: "Often cloudy, with the best of any sunshine in the east. Some rain is possible in the west at times on Thursday and Friday, perhaps easing by Saturday. Turning milder."
