French Open: Iga Świątek and Coco Gauff to meet in final

Coco Gauff has booked her place in the French Open final, where she will face world number one Iga Świątek.

The two finalists both played on Thursday afternoon and beat their respective opponents in straight-sets.

Gauff will appear in her first ever Grand Slam final, while Świątek will be looking to win her sixth consecutive title.

The dominant Polish star needed just 64 minutes to dispatch Daria Kasatkina 6-2, 6-1 in order to reach her second French Open final. She last made the final in 2020 and went on to win the tournament, marking the first Grand Slam title win of her career.

Despite her best efforts, No.20 seed Kasatkina could not trouble the 20-year-old powerhouse.

Świątek’s comfortable win extends her unbeaten streak to an astonishing 34 matches, putting her level with Serena Williams for the second-longest winning streak of this century.

A win on Saturday would not only mark Świątek’s second French Open title but her winning tally will equal Venus Williams’ record of 34 consecutive match victories of the 21st Century.

Prior to her semi-final win over Kasatkina, the 21-year-old beat US duo Alison Riske and Jessica Pegula, as well as Danka Kovinić and Qinwen Zheng.

Aside from the match against Zheng, which was decided over three sets, Świątek has breezed through the rounds at Roland-Garros this year.

With just one set dropped and two bagels scored throughout the tournament, the Pole looks extremely comfortable heading into the final.

Gauff set a new personal best when she beat compatriot Sloane Stephens to reach the semi-final, marking the furthest she had ever reached in a Grand Slam tournament.

After a solid performance against Italy’s Martina Trevisan, the American has bettered her record by booking her
