Frank Lampard has already told Erik ten Hag what he must know about '£25m Manchester United target'

Erik ten Hag has already got a glowing review of Manchester United target Trevoh Chalobah from Frank Lampard.

The Chelsea defender looks set for a Stamford Bridge exit having been left at home for Enzo Maresca's side's tour of the United States. Despite finishing the last campaign strongly under Mauricio Pochettino, the Blues appear determined to sell the academy prospect, who is reportedly available for around £25million.

Both Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel were huge fans of the Englishman, who has played in central defence, full-back and central midfield. But the most glowing praise Chalobah has ever received came from Lampard, when he was acting as the Blues' interim manager at Stamford Bridge.

"He is such a selfless lad, that I don’t think he would say ‘I want to play in this position’, but maybe that will become apparent,” Lampard said in a press conference last year. “He has played really well in a back three for the club when he first got into the team, has played well as a centre-back in a back-four and then right-back like he did on Saturday.

“The bigger picture is applying himself. Since I have come back [as caretaker manager] he has been a delight to train with every day. He comes in with enthusiasm and when you talk about the things you want, he tries to do them on the pitch which is a great thing. In my short period, you look at the games and the wins you can have with individual players, and I have been very happy.”
