Frank Lampard gives Yerry Mina and Demarai Gray injury updates after Everton defeat at Newcastle United
Frank Lampard has given an update on both Yerry Mina and Demarai Gray after they were substituted in the first half of Everton's loss to Newcastle United.
The Blues were beaten 3-1 at St James' Park on Tuesday night after taking the lead through a Jamaal Lascelles own goal.
But Mason Holgate diverted the ball into his own net less than two minutes later before Ryan Fraser and Kieran Trippier wrapped up the points for the hosts with second-half strikes.
Mina was withdrawn with a quadriceps problem before the half-time interval and was replaced by Jarrad Branthwaite, adding to Everton's issues in the defensive area of the pitch after Ben Godfrey's injury on Saturday.
And Lampard admitted there was some initial concern over the Colombia international's situation.
He told his post-match press conference: "It's a quad injury. We're slightly concerned about it, but we'll have to assess over the next few days.
"Obviously losing Ben the other day makes it a double-whammy in an area of the pitch where they're two big players for us.
"We'll have to look at ways going forward to players that come in with the way we set up to move forward.
"They're big players for us, but we'll have to try and find a way to move forward without them at least."
Another defender, left-back Vitalii Mykolenko, missed the match through illness while Everton were further dealt a blow when winger Gray was substituted midway through the first period.
However, Lampard was more hopeful over the pair.
"It [losing Mykolenko] was a disruption because in terms of natural left-backs, left wing-backs, he's the one at the club," the boss added.
