Frank Lampard cannot make Rafa Benitez mistake in next Everton match

For the first time in his Everton tenure, Frank Lampard has a full week on the training pitch with his side ahead of Saturday's trip to Southampton.

After last Tuesday’s crushing 3-1 defeat to Newcastle United, the Blues responded with arguably their best performance of the season so far on Saturday afternoon.

Leeds United were the visitors to Goodison Park and nothing but three points would be enough for Frank Lampard’s side.

But in a huge twist to the story of Everton’s season, Lampard’s side actually delivered when it mattered and claimed a comfortable 3-0 victory.

The victory was the first time Everton had claimed all three points in the Premier League since they beat Arsenal at Goodison Park at the start of December.

In that time between the two wins, the Blues had lost five and drawn one of the six Premier League games they have played.

As a result of that poor run of form, the Blues have found themselves nervously hovering over the relegation zone.

But following Saturday's victory, the Blues can’t afford to make the same mistake Rafa Benitez’s side did against Crystal Palace back in December.

Heading into the game against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, the Blues had gone eight matches without a win in the top-flight.

But despite falling behind to a Martin Odegaard strike, the Blues hit back in the second half to claim a huge 2-1 win thanks to goals from Richarlison and Demarai Gray.
